The speculation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This choice of words suggests that the team could be building a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it pioneered the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, branching plots, and deep class systems—elements that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of specialized paths that are viable with a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously permissive, allowing players to improvise both in story and combat. Most missions can be completed in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can anticipate more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
