19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hardcourt

A revitalized the Russian player claimed his first title for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a former number one, has experienced a torrid year, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - caused him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-term coach Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's initial championship following the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface since spring of that year.

Success also means the Russian has won twenty-one victories at 21 different competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a trophy is really nice," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his past six championship matches, comprising in Halle in the past months.

His defensive strategy and recurring reactions on the tennis court had caused commentators to question if his skill to play at the top level was over.

However the player has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the first set against the challenging opponent, taking 4 of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped breaks in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his initial ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to push for a decider.

Moutet rescued four early opportunities in a competitive final set before the champion broke to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he earned the win with a shot at the net, with Moutet incapable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
